Part Time Staff

Music Notes is looking for a member of staff who will play a full part in this small but growing business.  The business started in January 2002 in a small shop in South John Street.  In 2005 we moved to our current premises and have greatly expanded the range of items we sell.  We have built a reputation as a reliable, specialist supplier of printed music.  We also sell instruments, musical gifts and accessories and have a good reputation for folk and acoustic instruments.

The vacancy is for a member of staff to work 12 hours per week.  These will be a mixture of 4 hour, 6 hour and full day 7.5 hour shifts frequently including Fridays and Saturdays.  In addition the willingness to be flexible and to work extra hours as the business demands is essential especially at holiday times.

Pay is currently £7.60 per hour.  4 Weeks paid holiday per year.  25% staff discount on purchases.

Duties will include all aspects of serving customers such as till work, taking and fulfilling orders, using the telephone and computer, and advising customers on the music and equipment best suited to their requirements.  Our customers range from the absolute beginner to professional musicians and include many teachers.

Our instrument sales are expanding and a knowledge of and an interest in these will be an advantage.

Our website contains 180,000+ music tiltles, 2000 CDs and at present 1 mug.  We will be developing this and skills in this area would be an advantage.

Other duties will include unpacking and shelving stock, displaying merchandise and generally keeping the shop clean and tidy.

In short a bit of everything required to ensure the customers get the music and goods they require.

The ideal candidate will have a good knowledge of music covering a wide period of time and styles.  It is expected that the successful applicant will be practising musicians with suitable qualifications such as A level music and/or at least grade 6 in an instrument or voice and/or considerable experience in music making.

Experience in the retail environment would be an advantage but is not essential.  The ability to use your own initiative to further the business is important.

Applications by letter and c.v. with two references please.  I expect to hold interviews at the beginning of March.
